Working Alongside the Courts of Putnam County
The Clerk of the Circuit, Civil Sessions and Juvenile Courts is an office required by Tennessee’s State Constitution. The Clerk is elected by the people of Putnam County every four years.
The Clerk has the responsibility to perform all administrative functions to support the judges of the courts, keep all documents and records pertaining to the courts, collect fees owed to Putnam County through the courts, maintain record books and cases, and the dockets for each of the courts.
The actual fee for any service is set by the Tennessee General Assembly under state law.

Primary Services
Fine collection for general sessions, criminal court, and juvenile court

Jury Duty
Keeps records and minutes for general sessions, circuit courts, and juvenile court
Appeals
|
Process all Appeals, both Criminal and Civil, from lower courts (General Sessions Juvenile). If a defendant chooses to appeal his/her sentence from Circuit Court, we prepare the record to send to the Court of Appeals, which can include all documents in the case along with all exhibits from the trial and/or any hearings. |
Boundovers
|
Cases transferred to Circuit Court from General sessions. Make a new case folder and enter it into the computer. Place on courts docket. |
Child Support
|
Process all paperwork sent from Child Support Enforcement which includes new case filings, attachments, and summons. |
Civil
|
Enter all new civil case filings. Issue summons, garnishment/levy as necessary. Process any pleadings presented at the front counter. |
Courtroom Clerks
|
Prepare all Orders announced in court. Issuing any Capias, Mittimus, Warrants or other documents as necessary. Keep a log of court notes for each day of court. The clerks dispose all the criminal cases. Once disposed, the cases are sent to Cost Collections for billing. |
