When is my court date?

How much is my court cost?
- To determine your court costs, you may call the clerk’s office at 931–528-1508 .
- After a case has been disposed, you may contact the Debt Collection department, please contact 931-646-1522 to work out a payment plan.
When are the new dockets available?
- Most courts post their dockets a day before court.
- General Sessions Criminal has court on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday.
- General Sessions Civil has court on Tuesday & Thursday.

How can I pay my traffic tickets?
Certain charges can be dismissed and paid over the phone or online; however, other charges require a mandatory court appearance.
Can be dismissed:

- Expired Registration/Unregistered Vehicle/Display of Plate
- No insurance-if they had current insurance on the day of the citation or got it the day of the citation, this can be dismissed with no fee
- No Driver’s License/Expired DL/Classification of DL
- Light Law
- Window Tint
- Exercise Due Care (If the violation was from an accident)
- No medical Card (This is for CDL holders)
Mandatory Court Appearance:

- Speeding 100 MPH or more
- Suspended DL/Revoked DL
- Reckless Driving
- Leaving the Scene of an Accident
- Simple Possession/Drug Paraphernalia
- No DL if proof isn’t turned in before court date
- No insurance if proof isn’t turned in before court date
- Move over law

Where do I park?
- Parking at the Justice Center upper lot is extremely limited; it is suggested to park at the public parking lot found at the corner of Spring Street and Maple.
- All Justice Center parking is posted, and any unauthorized parking to the contrary is subject to being towed.
- Parking in lots owned/operated by the surrounding businesses is strongly discouraged and may be subject to being towed at the owner’s expense.
What items are prohibited in the Justice Center?
- Prohibited items in the Justice Center include, but are not limited to: drugs, alcohol, cell phones, weapons, or any type of electronic devices.
- You may contact the Sheriff’s office at 931-528-8484 for other prohibited items.
- If you require medication during your visit, please contact the Putnam County ADA Coordinator at 931-526-6321 prior to the date of your appearance.
How do I request a record?
- If you would like to request a copy of a court document, please contact our records clerk at recordsclerk@putnamcountytn.gov.
- When requesting documentation, please include the name of the Defendant, Plaintiff, case number, and year.
- Copy fees &/or certification fees will apply. (Please note: not all court documents are public record)

What are the primary services for the clerk’s office?
- Fine collection for general sessions, criminal court, and juvenile court
- Issues warrants
- Summons
- Jury Duty
- Keeps records and minutes for general sessions, circuit courts, and juvenile court
- Passport applications and photos – available from 8:00- 3:30 p.m.
- Appeals: Process all Appeals, both Criminal and Civil, from lower courts (General Sessions Juvenile). If a defendant chooses to appeal his/her sentence from Circuit Court, we prepare the record to send to the Court of Appeals, which can include all documents in the case along with all exhibits from the trial and/or any hearings.
- Bound overs: Cases transferred to Circuit Court from General sessions. Make a new case folder and enter it into the computer. Place on the court’s docket.
- Child Support: Process all paperwork sent from Child Support Enforcement, which includes new case filings, attachments, and summons.
- Civil: Enter all new civil case filings. Issue summons, garnishment/levy as necessary. Process any pleadings presented at the front counter.
- Courtroom Clerks: Prepare all Orders announced in court. Issuing any Capias, Mittimus, Warrants, or other documents as necessary. Keep a log of court notes for each day of court. The clerks dispose of all the criminal cases. Once disposed of, the cases are sent to Cost Collections for billing.
